Why FilaBench?

Most of the current 3D printing benchmarks focus on printer and slicer capabilities. Additionally, most of them don't translate well into numbers which can be used to compare between filaments. The FilaBench focuses on quantitative measurements of filament-centric properties while limiting material usage and print time.

The print takes ~90 minute and ~10g when printed at 0.2mm and 15%

With that being said the printer used, slicer settings, and other factors like room temperature can affect the result significantly. This test is designed for you to benchmark your own filaments against each other and against themselves in different conditions.

What do you need to use the FilaBench?

Any slicer which can slice .stl files

A 3D printer

A set of callipers for making measurements.

Are the rankings arbitrary?

Yes. The numerical rankings developed for this benchmark are entirely arbitrary based on what we had encountered as best cases and what we considered to be a practical worst case. The hope with these rankings is that they allow you to differentiate between different filaments. If you find all of your materials to be scoring very high or very low then you can totally adjust the ranges that you use so that the information you record is useful for you.

Measuring

Warping

Corners and lines to measure for warping.

Pressing down on the base at the corner shown above will let you take consistent measurements of the warping.

To measure the warping on the print press down on the base then use a caliper to measure how much the listed corners or lines are warped up.
